There are no direct long-haul flights to
Tibet. You will probably
have to stop over in Kathmandu, Beijing, Bangkok or Hong Kong before
reaching Lhasa.
The primarily gateway to
Tibet is Kathmandu from
Nepal. Lhasa can be reached by air as well as land from Kathmandu. Air route
from Bangkok or Hong Kong will include several stop-overs in Kunming and
Chengdu.
In theory there are a number of land routes into
Tibet. In practice,
however, most travelers only use one of two officially sanctioned routes.
Kathmandu to Lhasa via the Friendship Highway or Golmud to Lhasa via the
Qinghai-Tibet Highway. |
