Mumbai (Bombay), Delhi, Kolkata (Calcutta) and Chennai (Madras) are the main gateways for international flights. India's national carrier is Air India, which also carries passengers on some domestic sectors of international routes. Indian Airlines, the country's major domestic carrier, offers flights to some 16 neighboring countries.

Andaman Islands - Jet Airways operates daily flights from Chennai to Port Blair. Indian Airlines has four flights a week from Chennai to Port Blair and from Kolkata to Port Blair. These flights return to their city of origin on the same day. All flights take around two hours.

There are usually two to four sailings a month between Port Blair and Chennai or Kolkata on vessels operated by SCI. Less-frequent (once every two months) services operate from Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). The length of the boat trip varies with the weather. On a good crossing, it takes 60 hours to reach Port Blair from Chennai and, 56 hours from Kolkata or Visakhapatnam.
